On Monday, we all went for a drive around Kelso and Longview. Everyone fit in the Subaru and though Judi and I came out covered with about as much hair as the dogs, we managed to come out from under it eventually. The dogs are shedding their winter coats.
The picture above is of Judi with Pirate on the left, Journey on the right and Quest in front. We took a walk around part of Lake Sacajawea, in Longview.
Even the rain did not deter us. We drove around to look at some houses I wanted to show her...
We crossed the Lewis & Clark Bridge, entering into Oregon and drove toward Astoria for a while. It was raining, but still pretty. Of course that is why it is so green - quite a change from Southern California, where Judi lives. In Westport, Oregon we watched the arrival of the little ferry boat, just docking, from one of its trips to Puget Island and back.
After Journey's agility class on Tuesday, July 2, we stopped at my daughter's home in Portland, Oregon.
After visiting with Laura we headed north and stopped for a tour of Sauvie Island, Oregon. I had hoped to find a home on Sauvie Island, but by the time I was ready, nothing appropriate seemed to be available. Sauvie Island is 26,000 acres and is the largest island in the Columbia River. It is one of the largest river islands in the United States.
There of beautiful farms that grow flowers of various types. Some allow you to pick your own.
As we were driving around the island admiring the beautiful herds of Black Angus and various other farm animals, I saw a field of large sheep. I pulled over and opened the back window so Journey could look out. He was amazed as the sheep started toward the car. The sheep were calling to us, "Baaaaa" . What was really interesting, is that their interest was all directed at Journey. He had not made a sound, but just had his head out the window looking at the sheep. The whole herd of sheep moved toward our car, but their eyes were on Journey. He was amazed. He tipped his head occasionally and just watched them intently. When some of them got to the fence as close to the car as they could get, he stepped back a step, but he did not leave the window. He was very interested in them.
