Best Mothers Day ever! Laura and Kevin invited me to join them at Skamokawa, Washington for a few days, over Mothers Day weekend. It is a wonderful drive from our house. About 25 miles west, along the Columbia River, toward the ocean. They had reserved two riverside spots for both of us. We were right on the edge of the beach.
Laura and Kevin were there when we arrived late Saturday afternoon. They had come in from the coast with wonderful fresh crab, razor clams and sea bass. We had a dinner of fresh clams dipped in panko and fried. The stacked platter of clams, that looked to be enough for at least six people, dissappeared between the three of us. It was served with a vegetable tossed salad and some champagne. Very good!
Quest and the young guys headed for the water.
The dogs got to run the beach and they even raced each other in the shallow water, when no ships were passing by. We all sat by the campfire and wished we had remembered to bring marshmallows.
On Sunday my Mothers Day brunch was Eggs Benedict with fresh crab and poached eggs on a bed of fresh spinach.
So good! Next was a little drive into Cathlamet and a stop at the grocery store for some marshmallows and a few other things. Then we did a little sightseeing.
After a leisure afternoon on the beach, we enjoyed a Sea Bass dinner. Then at the campfire, we brought out the marshmallows and even stuffed some of them with Rollos. The dogs slept so good after all the running on the beach. I slept pretty good too, in spite of the sand the dogs put on/in my bed.
Monday morning I was sitting in the RV just writing some email when Laura brought over breakfast - a wonderful Zuchinni & Mushroom Frittata, some orange juice and sliced fruit.
Our campground.
Monday a storm came in and it was spectacular. Short periods of heavy rain, lots of wind, and very interesting cloud formations. We slipped outside between showers and still got in a lot of beach time. Late in the afternoon the storm went inland and we were left with the most beautiful sunlight, and lots of wind. Laura took a bunch of pictures of the dogs and me on the beach. They turned out pretty nice. The dogs are always photogenic, but even the ones of me were better than normal. Good photographer!
I had planned to go home on Monday, but as the storm moved on, it was just so beautiful I could not leave. Laura talked me into staying for dinner again. It was slow cooked chicken on the Traeger Grill, baked yams with lime juice and chopped cilantro. It was incredible. I had never had yams done that way. We also had a tossed green salad.
The Beach boys: Journey, Quest & Pirate.
Journey wanted to sit at the pretty table.
"We are ready to run the beach."
Left over Frittata for Tuesday breakfast. A wonderful run on the beach and then we headed for home. Journey had agility class at 12:30 and I needed to drop off the RV at home, so we could take the Subaru to class in Ridgefield.
Once again, Journey surprised me by doing very well, in spite of the rushing and the long drives to get to the class in time. He ran several nearly fault-free courses. He loves the lessons. His worst fault is that he sometimes adds additional obstacles on his own, but he is getting better. A couple of his classmates may be a little ahead of him in some things, but he is catching up fast. He had an excellent foundation in his classes with Karen Haderly.
I have hopes of showing Journey in an upcoming NADAC trial. I also want to get him into CPE agility.
