We got home from agility lessons and from shopping, at about 4:00 PM. The beautiful doe, that I am calling Misty, was eating apples from our trees. When we pulled up to the gate she stopped eating and raised her head to watch us. I talked the dogs into not barking - for the most part - and I opened the gate and we just sat and watched her. She is such a beautiful creature I could watch her endlessly. She is large. I think her back is higher than my waist. She is built so nice, with a soft brown coat. Her underside is cream colored and her tail has some black and some cream on the underside. She has a sturdy build with lovely long legs and tiny feet.
I drove through the gateway and closed it behind us. We just sat and watched her watching us for a while. Then I slowly drove up the driveway and into the garage. She did not move as we passed by her, only a few feet away. I closed the garage door before we got out We went into the house and watched her from my bedroom window. She was once again eating apples. She seems to come every evening for her apple snack. There are still quite a few apples on the trees. She finished off the plums. I don't think she is fond of pears.
I got busy in the kitchen, fixing dinner for the dogs and putting groceries away. I remembered that I had not put the trash can outside the gate, so I turned on the big outside lights. The lights do a fairly good job of lighting up the front of the property and the driveway. When I looked out the front windows I could see Misty by the large Oak tree. Again I just watched her and tried to talk the dogs into not barking. Spirit is good, but the kids - not so much. I have no idea what was in her mind, but it looked almost as if she was just being playful.. She seemed to enjoy having the lights on and she pranced around a little and did a few bounces. At first I thought she was frightened, but I changed my mind. She was well aware that the dogs were confined, and was not paying any attention to them. A very fine rain was falling and the whole scene was just so pretty.
After a few minutes Misty headed back to the apple trees. I went back to my bedroom window and watched her for a while. I love the way she stands on her hind legs and balances while she picks apples from the trees. She is so graceful. I love living here.

One night, during a full moon, something made me look out my bedroom window. Although there was not a sound, and the dogs did not alert. Just as I did, I saw several deer in the moonlight, passing the apple trees. I cannot possibly describe how beautiful it was. Of course there was no way to take a photo. Some pictures, you just need to keep in your mind's eye.
